Tiles, Ribbons, and Absurdist Plays
This week I’ve been combing the internet for inspiration. I’m developing a new course on fabric manipulation and my browser tabs are full of pleats, gathers, and the tangential things that they’ve led me to. Some stand outs have been:
A visually satisfying archival tile catalogue. Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi, an absurdist play about a man who kills the King of Poland, takes the throne for himself, and then starts murdering nobles and raising taxes. Chaos ensues. It’s in French but this version is worth a look for the costuming alone.
My favourite ribbon shop.
Paul Jackson’s book, Complete Pleats.
Carl Beam’s The North American Iceberg.
Magdalene Odundo’s ceramics.
Frances Morgan on Yoko Ono.
